Excellent information. Thank you.
Thanks for posting! I’ve been listening to Joe since 1960. I’m 81 now and still live his sound, though I use only fingers, no picks. Enjoyed this session! Thanks again!
Thanks for posting. I will definitely check out Beato’s interview with Benson. Your comments may help me to further appreciate Benson, if that’s possible. Also, I did’t know the Count Basie story. I’ll have to hear that story!!
❤ офигеть, как круто рисунок и ритм под конец сменили! Браво, парни!🎉🎉🎉
Send this one to the aliens
Not certain how I never heard any of this before this week. I’ve now listened to your first book and your new book will be here tomorrow. I’ve played at music all my life. Now, at 79 I’m learning to play piano, I have a teacher who, while she is understanding, won’t let me move on until I’ve mastered my current lesson, and now, having heard your book, I understand the value of that. I’ve always found value in what we called mind over matter back in the 60’s and 70’s, and found truth in your ideas of getting out of your own way and allowing yourself to be. I’ve already started to practice differently, and now just set aside a little time to play and try not to care about how it sounds. It’s hard, but I’ve really just started….. Thank you for this, I’ll keep trying to dump my Ego trip and let my mind just observe.
How the hell do you keep the camera still? I would be all over the place
Wes does a great solo in THE THMB, a blues were the end of his chord solo he plays a chorus from a blues on Count Basie's 50s LP Atomic Basie called as I remember Splanky, arranged &/or composed by Neal Hefti. That chorus is played by lots of musicians in jam sessions.
I love it. Another great class, Chase. I don't believe in a " Number One Best" in any musical endeavor, but your classes are amoung the best jazz guitar classes. It's all there, theory, exercises, practicality, beautiful music, plus whatever. ❤😊😊
tone time and intonation
How to fill the space with the chord?
Brother,I saw your vedio, can you please send the notation
Freshest thing I’ve seen in a long while, he’s on fire!
Sharkey, and Letteri are my two favorites to listen to for sure.
Great ideas. Even as a sax player, there’s so much to learn from Wes. I delight in listening to him!
Dele la ganancia a su país y no a los gringos que han hecho tanto daño a los latinos. Saludos y bendiciones hermanos.
"That's it!" 😁👍 Lol yeah right buddy
Thanks!
Love this explanation .thanks !
u rock
Very cool! Using it now for sure, Thx for helping…!
Music pedagogy has been well explored by the likes of kodaly, dalcroze, suzuki, orff. Most guitar stds and teachers start the wrong way round and make the journey long and tedious. She is describing that long path. Highly motivated learners can tolerate it but music is a language, we all learnt and became highly competent and communicative in our native language so there is little reason we shouldn't be able acquire music if guided along that path well. The key is the music, not the instrument. If there is no music, nothing tangible to express, then it is harder. Start with the sounds first, the ears and the voice, the actual music, and the mechanics will follow. There is no excuse in this day and age where we free access to all the world's music that we desire.
Can you do chuck loeb’s high five solo? I really like his transitions there with wes influence too
I can’t understand half of what Peter says anyway. So I’ll stick to Chase’s channel.
Dude is golden boy. Every girl wants authentic
I love Benson's hard swing - more to the front of the beat - which is true 6/8 over 4/4 ..he has the best time of all guitarists especially Jazz but as you know - it does NOT come with the knife picking , you can get it with alt picking. And as you say - he has an amazing ear and always knows where he is in the tune. He is amazingly bold sticking outrageous arpeggios in ballads and landing perfectly on a chord tone . We are lucky to have GB for inspiration and even a guide as you use him ....I don't play Standards but inspired by both Brecker and Benson who play R&B inspired Jazz ...where I am harmonically expanding R&B ...but GB inspired me to tighten up my time feel on lines ...which I had on expanded voicings and harmonic rhythms [ which most Jazz Guitarists don't do - there is no one to copy for that part of my writing and playing - as you will see / hear.] George is a musical genius with much more passion than almost ANY Jazz Guitarist and even many of the horn players.
And I think you will be reall interesting to hear in Miami and recording .And your insight into GB is very interesting . You will hear some of my Blues which changes Keys ...although not my full focus...
And GB can play Blues over any changes regardless of chord types - it's amazing ...I like your insight though ...very interesting. Much of Jazz is boring to me - I came more from Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan ...but only have had my full chops for about 12 years ...
What strings on the ibanez?
Peter Farrell is a horrible teacher. Have never gotten anything from his videos. His opinion doesn’t matter.
I've been studying Peter's method for a few years, and I'd say I'm a huge advocate for what he's teaching. That said, it's very disappointing to see him speak so poorly about another teacher like that. I'll put it down to his fiery latin spirit, but I hope he does learn to direct his criticism with more elegance. As far as the Secret of Two Chords thing goes, Peter does explain how they're grouped and the logic of it all, but his recent content is so bitty and randomly cut together that it's very hard to get a handle on it unless you watch some of his earlier long-form videos where he really does lay it out in a digestible linear form. Once you get to grips with it, it's an earth-shatteringly powerful way of visualising and simplifying things on the fretboard. It was a revelation for me. The example you included where he mentions Emin is him playing ascending arpeggios in Cmaj. That Emin is included has literally nothing to do with the Secret of Two Chords, which is a very specific concept. I suspect Peter may have lost his temper because you're using the term "Secret of Two Chords", which he coined (correct me if I'm wrong on that), so it may be a little galling for him to see you talk about it publicly without fully understanding it. That doesn't excuse the name-calling by any means.
Just wondering how he get that full set of hair?
As anyone in the 70s jazz scene would say. This is the motherfu**n shit!
Beautiful practising and demonstration. Thank you.
Hi great Chanel! What is it for a Ibanez Guitar?
great lesson. I personaly find it a little unpleassing that the guitar seems to be not 100 percent in tune.
Are you saying the inversions become minor chords that you can substitute?
May be one time i'll be barely good enough to play with you
Hey man, I'm trying to develop my Jazz and Jazz-Blues Soloing Vocabulary by learning Heads & Solos. I wonder if you could give me some suggestions. If you were my teacher, what would you prescribe me!? I've learned Parker playing Billie's Bounce, Now's The Time, Au Privave. I then learned the solos on Chitlins Con Carne - Burrell; Grand Slam - Christian; Cool Blues - Green; Four on Six - Montgomery; Borgia Stick - Benson. Can you give me any suggestions for next steps please?
Hey Jamie, if you want personalized help you should become a member of Chase's Guitar Academy. All of my students get my personal attention and assistance in creating a lesson/practice plan that works for them. I work 7 days a week to make it the best place to learn jazz guitar, and it's how I earn my living. Here's the link to join: www.jazzmemes.org/free-trial
Maybe I've drunk too much of the Barry Harris Kool-aid, but this whole approach seems like it's expressed more succinctly and consistently in Barry's system. Am I missing something in Pat Martin's approach that Barry's doesn't encompass?
Excellent
